Mmmk, so it's been a while once again. But that's because life is pretty boring right now for the most part. I'm back in Ann Arbor for spring semester so all of my time is spent doing the ridiculous load of calc and physics homework I have.
Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Megan and I dating. She makes me really happy, and it's been quite an amazing year. It flew by, and it's hard to believe it's been a whole year already. Unfortunately she had class and I had class, so we couldn't be together, but she's gonna come visit on Thursday =) I love her.
To keep myself amused here, I've started renting a movie per day from the Askwith Media Library. So far I've seen: Idiocracy- Funny. I didn't really know what to expect going into this movie, so I enjoyed it quite a lot. Shawshank Redemption- I'd heard a lot of good things about this movie, but for some reason thought it was a horror movie (kinda like when I first watched Edward Scissorhands.) It was a good story, just very long. Memento- Certainly an interesting movie, it was a change of pace from normal linear movies. Brazil- I've heard a lot of good things about Brazil, but I didn't really like it that much. It had its moments, and certainly Terry Gilliam is a good director, but it just wasn't my style of movie, for much the same reason I didn't really like Bladerunner. Fucking Åmål- (English title: Show Me Love) Despite sounding like porn, this was a pretty good movie. It was in Swedish with English subtitles, but I was pleased at how much of it I understood just by listening. It was about a girl grappling with budding lesbianism while being in love with a popular girl at her school. Despite featuring this storyline, several girl-on-girl kissing scenes, implications of both sex and masturbating, and a scene where a girl cuts herself, this movie is rated 11 in Sweden, which means anyone 11 or older can see it. Unrated in America, but I'm sure if they tried it would've been R. Sweden is so much less retarded! But yeah, this movie was pretty good, I'd recommend it for anyone who can deal with subtitles.
My list of movies to rent in the future so far (in no particular order): Amélie True Romance Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead Gummo Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance Sympathy for Lady Vengeance Let the Right One In Everything is Illuminated Reservoir Dogs The Science of Sleep Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels City of God Cool Hand Luke
And now back to doing physics homework. Wooo.

Okay, so here's a newer more updated-y version of my schedule:

First thing to note: class never starts before noon. Fuck yeeeah. Second thing to note: class on Friday = bad. EECS discussions = often skippable. We'll see. Third thing to note: 16 credits. Much nicer than an unstable 14.
I deviated from the old schedule because classes were closing up quicker than the legs of women in the presence of this guy. There were no spots left for juniors in Astro 127. The stats section I wanted closed, which screwed stuff up. It was a mess. So instead of going for the bs 1 credit NS credits, I decided to just go for another EECS class. So, a rundown:
TCHNCLM 300: This is basically about writing resumes and stuff. It's an EECS requirement. EECS 370: Introduction to Computer Organization. Assembly languages, processor stuff, virtual memory, etc. EECS req. EECS 376: Foundations of Computer Science. Complexity, basic languages, stuff like that. Sounds like 203 on steroids. EECS req. EECS 382: Internet-Scale Computing. Concept and design of programming systems. Multithreading, networking, stuff like that. It actually sounds really interesting to me. Flexible tech elective I think? STATS 412: Intro to Probability and Statistics. Ugh.
Now, scheduling is tomorrow at 12:45. 7 slots left in Stats, 8 in 382. Eep!

For some reason I always feel as though I'm inspired to write stuff until I get to the lj update page. It doesn't help that I just finished large essays that I need to turn in tomorrow.
Anyway, I drafted up a schedule for next semester: http://mschedule.com/view.php?uniqname=thomeri
14 credits. 2 EECS classes that I need. Stats 412 that I need. Techl. Comm. I also need, which is lame because it's just how to write a resume or some stupid shit I learned in HS. Astro and Geosci are 1 credit mini courses on opposite sides of the semeseter (one is Sep-Oct, one is Oct-Dec) that I have to take because I need 12 natural science credits, and the physics 140/141/240/241 sequence only covers 10 of those. Unfortunately this also means no room for Swedish. sucks, but it just doesn't fit in this semester and I already have my language requirement done.
Oh, and I'm staying here for Spring semester to take Physics 240 and retake Math 215 (Calc 3). Pretty lame, but oh well.
Next year East Quad.
Now I'm tired.

So, I've survived another year and turned 20.
20 sounds really damn old and it's creepy.
Back to Witchcraft reading.

So I don't suppose I've for seriously updated my lj in quite a while, and I'm supposed to be studying for EECS right now, so as a cliche, I may as well. As I just said, still have my EECS exam. This is scary because 281 is supposedly the hardest EECS class in the department (except perhaps 381, but that one isn't required) I've been doing fairly well in it up to this point, but sorta zoned out the last couple of lectures. Reading the lecture notes, I think I understand everything, but I can't help but be somewhat paranoid. I finished French yesterday. Like, finished French. I won't be taking any more French classes, which is really strange for me because I've had French since 10th grade. 4 and a half years. I'm really hoping I stay decently fluent in it, because it's not something I want to forget, but I know what even long summers can do to my knowledge in French, so I probably will. Swedish was done on second to last day of class. I got an A-, which I'm fairly happy with. The last day of class we just played Swedish scrabble, which mostly boiled down to having our teacher walk around and tell us words we could make because we all had a very limited vocabulary, haha.
This is my schedule for next semester: http://mschedule.com/view.php?uniqname=thomeri Scand 104 is second semester Swedish. Fairly straightforward. Ling 272 is a linguistics class about Race & Discrimination related to language. It counts as an RE credit and actually sounds decently interesting, so I'm excited for that. Physics 140/141 is base level physics that I need for my CS degree. Womenstd 375 is History of Witchcraft, which should both be really interesting and hilariously easy (as in, the only assignments are in-class assignments, 30% of the grade is attendance, and two of the three exams are take-home exams)
Finally, started looking for housing for next year with Franz yesterday. We found some pretty decent 4-bedroom houses/apartments, one of which called me and woke me up at 9:30 this morning =( Hopefully we can having something nailed down by the time second semester starts. And hopefully, it's the space cube on S. University, which is my new dream home.
okay, back to TRANCE MUSIC AND SORTING ALGORITHMS FUCK YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH DAWG

"I think the voters were thinking, well, if it makes them happy, why shouldn't we let gay couples get married. And I think we made them realize that there are broader implications to society and particularly the children when you make that fundamental change that's at the core of how society is organized, which is marriage," [Jeff Flint, Propostion 8 supporter] said.
Implications to the children? What a fucking waste of semen this guy is.

http://www.pgporn.tv/
This is such a great concept, and the first episode is pretty funny. I'm interested to see where it goes. Quoting the site:
"How many times have you been watching a great porn film – you're really enjoying the story, the acting, the cinematography – when, all of the sudden, they ruin everything with PEOPLE HAVING SEX?
A bunch of times, right?
That's why I, along with my brothers Brian and Sean, have created JAMES GUNN'S PG-PORN. It's pornography everyone can enjoy, not just perverts. You and your grandmother, for instance, could sit down together and enjoy some nice clean smut. Or your kids could come home from school, and the whole family could gather around the computer and not-jerk-off to some porn deeply embedded with traditional values (like not fucking.) "

So once again, instead of writing diaries in Swedish I'll just write them here in English because god damn am I unproductive right now.
Saturday I had my first experience with theatre here. All I can say is... god damn I miss theatre people. They had a thing called 24 hour theatre, where 4 shows are written in 12 hours, and then the 12 hours after that are spent memorizing, directing, blocking, lighting, etc. the shows, and 24 hours after the shows begin being written, they are performed. I had so much fun doing it (I got to be lightboard operator on my first day!) The most notable of the shows was the 4th show, called The Penis Play. It was a 20 minute musical about a guy and his dick... pure genius. I wish I had it on video, because I honestly believe that to be the funniest thing that the world of musical theatre has ever produced.
Today was my second experience with theatre here. I'm gonna do lights, sound, and set construction for a Basement Arts production of Harvey!, which is an old Jimmy Stewart movie about a guy and an imaginary rabbit. I'm pretty excited, and everyone should come see it the 23-25 =)
Now, back to my swedish homework. I need to get to sleep soon because Megan's coming to visit tomorrow and I don't want to get a cold again like last time =x

Swedish is so easy to learn. =D
In other news, later this week I'm doing tech for a theatre thing on north campus. I'm really excited. Life in general here is pretty boring. Every day is basically the same, as described in the above Swedish paragraph. On Thursday, The Novel Citizen is playing at The Blind Pig. They're a band I saw a few times in Rochester, who I've always found to be really cool. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to the show.
I went home last weekend... home being Warren. It's very strange, because I live in a dental lab there now. A rather well furnished dental lab, but a dental lab nonetheless. On Thursday, Megan came over to the lab and my dad showed us his record player, so we listened to Pink Floyd and Styx and all kinds of cool stuff on vinyl. Dark Side of the Moon has never sounded so good. Friday we went up to Yates Cider Mill and got cider and donuts and took a long walk through the woods which almost ended in us getting shot (the fence to the shooting range was broken down!) Afterwards, we went to see Burn After Reading, which was exceptionally good. Saturday, I just sat around for most of the day, then went to Megan's once she was done with work. I left Warren and came back to UM at like 10, and Josh and I went to Jeremy's 21st birthday party thing.
Now I'm all overloaded with homework, time to write more Swedish diaries (what am I supposed to write about? every day is so similar >:o )

So I'm all moved into college and everything. I started classes on Tuesday.
French- I haven't actually met my French teacher yet... apparently she couldn't make it the first week of class, so we ended up with the same professor I had last semester. Our real one will be back Monday though. Swedish- This class is gonna be awesome. The teacher is really enthusiastic and I'm really liking the language so far, although I haven't learned much.. just the alphabet, numbers, and some basic questions/answers (fråga/svar) Data Structures & Algorithms- Regardless of whether the professor says he's trying to make this less of a weeder course, I'm still a little terrified. I'm definitely gonna have to brush up on my programming skills because I've lost a lot of the fluency I had at the end of 280. I should be fine as long as I remain diligent.
As far as other things... my social life should be a bit better this year. I'll hang out with Christina and her friends some, plus my hall is starting to be a little more social ever since the hall meeting we had the other day.
Megan came up to visit me on Thursday... that was really cool except that my body decided to wake up with a horrible cold on Thursday morning that still hasn't quite left. I'm not such an entertaining person when I'm sick... I felt really bad. We took a really long walk through the arb which was fun because I haven't really been back there at all, and didn't realize how big/cool it is.
Felt a little better when I woke up this morning, luckily, because we went to the football game against Miami (Ohio). We played a pretty terrible game, but still managed to pull it off, so that was good. I think I've pretty much filled my football quota for the year though, it's only hockey games from here on out.
I'll try to take some pictures of my room at some point and post them here after we get our final two posters... it's looking pretty cool. Especially the ~7ft Bill Cosby poster featured in my facebook picture.
